Client:

The South Dakota Long-Term Care Ombudsman Program provides information and referral assistance, education to increase community awareness of resident’s rights, and training for long-term care facility staff.

Objective:

Establish a recognizable and memorable identity for a health program with an uncommon name.

Solution:

Since "ombudsman" is an uncommon term that many people don’t recognize, we saw an opportunity to emphasize the familiar part of the name: “bud.” By condensing the identity to just “bud,” we made the program instantly recognizable to our audience. We used vibrant colors, blue, orange, and purple to ensure the design stood out and avoided using alarming colors like yellow or red. Large, condensed sans serif typography was chosen to accommodate lengthy words and maximize legibility, particularly for an older demographic.
