Great Plains Climbing Coalition

Brand Identity

Client:

The Great Plains Climbing Coalition is a volunteer group with a mission to promote and expand the sport of rock climbing on the eastern side of South Dakota. They are actively involved in establishing bolt routes, creating pathways, and practicing responsible land stewardship for the areas they climb in.

Objective:

The primary goal of the GPCC was to develop a logo that would enhance its credibility and visibility within the community. Given that the GPCC is the second climbing coalition in South Dakota, they needed to distinguish themselves from their counterparts in the western part of the state.

Solution:

After careful consideration, the east-facing buffalo emerged as the symbol of choice. The buffalo not only represents the plains but also embodies fortitude, aligning perfectly with the spirit of the GPCC. Unlike the abundance of climbing routes in the Black Hills of western South Dakota, the eastern region offers limited opportunities, making the GPCC's commitment to climbing in challenging weather and conditions a testament to their passion for the sport.

In addition to the logo, the GPCC has created a collection of badges inspired by national parks. These badges serve as merchandise and are instrumental in raising funds for the coalition. They not only evoke a sense of adventure but have also proven to be delightful ways for the climbing community to advocate for their beloved sport.
